REGISTRATION FAQ's
May I register myself and students at the same time?
It is certainly possible to register multiple attendees using the same credit card or check.
If registering on-line, be sure to log out before registering another person.
If registering by mail, the national office does need separate registration forms for each attendee with names, addresses, and contact information for our database.
If you do not know the students’ names at the time of payment, you may indicate “Student 1, University of X,” etc., and supply names at a later date. (Mailed forms only - do not do this online)
I'm coming from outside the U.S.; is there anything I should know?
Yes, depending on what country you're coming from, you may need to allow several months to get a visa for travel to the USA. Visit UnitedStatesVisas.gov for the latest information on visas and whether or not you're required to have one. Also http://www.state.gov/ is the general website for the US State Department.
My plans have changed and I will not be able to attend the conference this year. How do I go about getting a refund?
The National Women's Studies Association regrets that it cannot refund conference registration payments.
PRESENTER FAQ 's
How long should my presentation be?
All concurrent sessions are 75 minutes long; panels that include four presenters would open with 5 minutes of introductions by a moderator, 10 minute papers by each panelist, and 30 minutes of discussion.
Workshops and roundtables are intended to foster discussion among attendees, so prepared remarks by the workshop or roundtable leader(s) should be brief to allow for discussion time.
How many audience members can I expect?
Concurrent sessions are typically held in meeting rooms that can accommodate about 30 audience members.
Session attendance varies widely, but sessions focusing on “hot topics” or the latest scholarly issues and debates often draw larger audiences.
Factors such as the time of day and room location may also have a bearing on session attendance.
When will my presentation be scheduled?
Information about your session date and time will be posted by April 14, 2008.
May I request a specific date/time for my presentation?
The proposal submission form will include space to make specific requests for scheduling based upon religious observances or accessibility issues.
NWSA will make every effort to accommodate such requests, but scheduling nearly 800 presenters is an enormous and complex task.
What type of media technology will be available to presenters?
NWSA will work to provide media equipment for presenters who make requests when proposals are submitted only.
The Association will provide access to slide projectors/TV-VCRs/overhead projectors only.
In keeping with the practices of other scholarly associations, we cannot guarantee LCD projection because of the extraordinary costs involved. |
ATTENDEE FAQ's
When will child care be available at the conference?
NWSA is committed to providing high-quality, licensed and insured child care that is partly subsidized by the organization.
You must make advance reservations for child care on the conference registration form no later than May 15, 2008.
We anticipate having child care will be available from 8 am-6 pm on Friday and Saturday, and possibly for limited hours on Sunday.
Attendees who wish to make arrangements outside of those hours will find provider names listed in the spring at care.html
Please note that children under 18 may also attend the conference at no charge and are welcome in sessions that may be of interest to them.
How can I make a request for accommodations at the conference?
NWSA’s Accessibility Chair works together with the local organizing committee and the national office to insure that the conference is accessible for all attendees.
NWSA will also make every effort to provide reasonable accommodations to presenters and attendees with disabilities.
Please indicate your need for accommodations on the registration form. We must receive requests for accommodations by May 15, 2008.
What should I wear at the conference?
Conference goers wear a variety of clothing styles - a mix of both business and casual wear.
Wear whatever is comfortable. Attendees should also note that the conference facilities are air conditioned and often cooler than typical home or work environments.
Will there be time to explore the city?
Concurrent sessions are scheduled all day during the conference, but the Association has planned special events on Thursday and Sunday for those who may wish to arrive early or stay late to take advantage of the surrounding area.
