	Patricia Hill Collins is a social theorist whose research, scholarship and activism have examined intersecting power relations of race, gender, social class, sexuality and/or nation. Professor Collins has taught at several institutions, held editorial positions with professional journals, lectured widely in the United States and abroad, served in many capacities in professional organizations, and has acted as consultant for a number of community organizations. She is also Charles Phelps Taft Emeritus Professor of Sociology within the Department of African American Studies at the University of Cincinnati. In 2007, she was elected the 100th President of the American Sociological Association, the first African American woman to hold this position in ASA’s 104-year history. Resisting Hegemonies: Race and Sexual Politics in Nation, Region, Empire Conference Overview The National Women's Studies Association leads the field of women’s studies in educational and social transformation. Established in 1977, NWSA has more than 2,000 members worldwide. Our annual conference regularly draws more than 1,200 attendees and is the only annual meeting in the US exclusively dedicated to showcasing the latest feminist scholarship. The 2008 conference will open on Thursday, June 19th with two pre-conferences hosted by the Program Administration and Development and the Women’s Centers Standing Committees. These daylong events offer networking and professional development opportunities for women’s and gender studies and women’s center administrators. The General Conference begins on Thursday evening and concludes Sunday afternoon; it will feature concurrent breakout sessions, new member events, and professional development sessions for graduate students and junior faculty. Special events will include a Creative Writers Series, a film series, a book exhibition, Critical Issues sessions, Presidential sessions, and area excursions. NWSA is also delighted to announce that the Tribute Panel for 2008, a session format intended to honor past scholarship that has set new directions for the field, will feature a tribute to Black feminist thought. Meeting Location The National Women's Studies Association 2008 annual meeting will be held at the Millennium Hotel, a unionized hotel in downtown Cincinnati, Ohio, from June 19-22, 2008.
